Even if you ask residents, many won't be able to tell you anything about Hotel Taiwana let alone where it's located on a secret section of Baie des Flamands near the better known Isle de France. Owned by Jean Paul Nemegyei, Hotel Taiwana has slowly emerged bigger and better with each passing year now offering a lively beachfront eatery in addition to a late-night lounge scene fueled by the chef himself.
What looks like a sprawling private home is actually a series of 13 suites that mixes elements of native island architecture with minimalist furnishings and spare artwork one might find in Ibiza's San Antonio or Salines. A dramatic pool deck at the center of the resort is surrounded in smooth white plaster walls with teak canopies containing bold red mattresses and preening crowd of hiding celebrities that for now still have their secret hotel heaven in St. Barth.
The Room
A total of 13 guests units are individually decorated with one-three bedroom options in a unique palette of minimalism meets tropical island hideaway. Large airy spaces range from whitewashed, wide-plank floors with lofty feel amongst large windows facing the sea to more traditional #18 Suite with its terracotta floors, plunge pool and Bahamian rattan furnishings. Expressive bathrooms come with occasional shade of really red to more gentile zen-like spaces of slate tiles and two-person rain showers.
